Difference between USB-C and Thunderbolt 3

Before discussing the difference between USB –C and Thunderbolt 3 first we will discuss about what are USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 actually.

Thunderbolt 3

Thunderbolt 3 is the latest version of Thunderbolt; it basically uses the same design like the USB-C connector. It offers USB speeds of 40Gbps and also it’s able to connect the two 4K displays at the same time.  Moreover, it also supports the Display Port 1.2, HDMI2.0 etc. Also, there is a feature of charging the devices in Thunderbolt 3. You can charge the devices through the Thunderbolt 3 laptop as it has ability of storing the 100 watts of power. You can perform your work on connected screen and can charge it as well.

USB -C

It is an industry-standard connector that has a ability of transmitting data and power both. It was first time developed by (USB-IF).  It gives look just like a micro USB connector. The default protocol use for the USB-C connector is USB 3.1 that is much faster than USB 3.0. Through USB-C connector video signals and power streams can send simultaneously. But you have to be careful while choosing the PC because all the USB-C ports are not same.

Difference between Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C

Let’s come to our main topic of discussion difference between these two standards. The main difference between these two ports is speed. The transfer speed of Thunderbolt 3 is 40Gbps that is four times much faster than USB – C standard. Whereas these two standards have different architectures one uses hub architecture whereas the Thunderbolt 3 uses daisy- chaining. So if you connect the thunderbolt 3 device with the system and if there is need of connecting the second device with the first one, so if you have one ore two thunderbolt 3 ports there is no need to be worried about it. Moreover, the best amount of bandwidth for the thunderbolt 3 enables some unique uses like ability of connecting the external gpu or more than one 4k displays in a single port.  Also, there is one common thing common in these two standards, both of them are placed the ecosystem of a computer as long as you connect the right devices in a right ports but the best thing regarding them is that both of them work in an accurate way.  Finally we have described main difference between these two standards hope you can better understand it.
