Why Choose John Lewis this Black Friday?
It’s no secret that the last year and a bit has been a tough time for John Lewis. Back in September of last year, the company revealed that its profits had dropped by an unbelievable 99%. For some companies, that number would be enough to tank their business, but thanks to the comparatively successful Waitrose arm of the business, John Lewis has managed to save itself from going into administration.
Of course, in order to keep itself in the black this year, the long-standing retailer will probably be going all in on trying to offer the best Black Friday deals it possibly can, outdoing the competition and ensuring a smooth end to the fiscal year.
From a consumer perspective, this is great news, especially when you pair it with the fact that products bought via John Lewis come with a two-year warranty as standard. And remember, the company also employs its ‘Never Knowingly Undersold’ mantra through its price-match guarantee, ensuring that you always get the best deal possible.

What is John Lewis’s Returns Policy?
In order to return an item bought from John Lewis but no longer want, you must provide proof of purchase and send back within 35 days of receipt. You’ll then receive either a refund or exchange, depending on the circumstances.
When it comes to returning a faulty item that develops a fault within the first 30 days of ownership, you can get a refund or exchange on your product. If the fault develops after the 30-day period, John Lewis will happily repair or replace your item.
You can choose to either return your items in person to your local John Lewis or Waitrose store. Otherwise, John Lewis has a number of postal returns options, including via Royal Mail or MyHermes.
What is John Lewis’ warranty?
When it comes to warranty, very few retailers can beat – let alone match – what John Lewis is putting out there. Thanks to a standard two-year warranty across most of its products, shoppers tend to flock to John Lewis when buying high price items. Let’s face it, when you’re playing around with your new iPhone 11, wouldn’t you feel more at ease knowing that it’s covered into the foreseeable future.
The fun doesn’t just stop there however, with the length of the warranty going even higher for certain listed items. TVs for instance can have a five-year warranty, while some mattresses might even stretch to seven.
Does John Lewis Offer a Student Discount?
Unfortunately, even as one of the biggest department stores in the UK, John Lewis doesn’t explicitly offer student discount for budding young adults off to university.
With that said, the retailer does have an array of products recommended for students on a budget, with a plethora of guides on its website to assist in your purchase and point you in the right direction.
In its student hub, you can find listings on student essentials, what to look for when choosing a laptop, as well as other device recommendations to promote socialising and wellbeing during your studies.
Does John Lewis Offer a Trade-In Scheme?
Hidden in the depths of the John Lewis deal page, you can find products available to buy, eligible for a significant discount when trading in select devices. This is available across a wide spectrum of gadgets, including smartphones and laptops, as well as larger appliances like fridge freezers and washing machines.
What John Lewis’ trade-in scheme entails is a tasty discount off the RRP of the device you’re buying simply by giving in your old devices. Generally there is some specification of what devices you can trade in to reap the benefits of the saving. For instance, a MacBook saving can sometimes be unlocked when trading in an old Apple laptop or, when buying a smartphone, by giving in your old handset.
Not all devices are awarded this offer, so keep your eyes pealed and do your research when looking to upgrade your devices. If nothing else, this scheme is hugely convenient, allowing you to easily get rid of your old gadget whilst investing in a new one.
Does John Lewis offer click and collect?
In keeping up with the competition of almost every other major retailer these days, John Lewis does have a click a collect service. This is a great option if you want to avoid the unthinkable of having your precious cargo left by your front door where anyone can get their hands on it.
Much like Argos’ option to have your packages delivered to a local Sainbury’s, John Lewis gives you the option of having an order sent to one of its department stores or any Waitrose Supermarket in the country. This can be particularly handy if you don’t have a local John Lewis store in your area, but there is a Waitrose nearby.
Using click and collect also makes the process of returning items even easier – all you have to do is bring the item back to the same store it was delivered to, with the proof of purchase in tow.
If there isn’t a John Lewis or Waitrose store for miles around then fear not, the UK retailer has still got you covered with a little something called Collect+. For just £3.50, you can have your order delivered a local shop of your choosing – so long as they’re signed up to the Collect+ scheme. At present, there are over 7000 participating retailers, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find a local shop that can receive your order.
John Lewis delivery options for Black Friday 2019
Aside from the click and collect service, there are three other delivery available from John Lewis: standard, next-day and international. Standard delivery, as you might expect, is the usual ‘within five working days’ approach adopted by most retailers – it’s free if your order comes to a total above £50, but becomes £3.50 for anything less than that.
Next-day delivery, while it is convenient, will set you back a bit more. The current going rate is £6.95 for small and medium items, while next-day delivery for larger items will set you back £19.95.
For our international friends out there, John Lewis delivers to a total of 38 countries worldwide, to the likes of Austria, Singapore and even Canada. There are two price brackets for international delivery, with European countries calling for a £7.50 charge while countries further afield will cost you £10.
