How to Get a Product Key for Windows 10

window 10 product key

Although digital licensing and recurring subscriptions rapidly replace traditional product keys, many Windows 10 customers may still have a product key linked with their installation. We’ll guide you on how to find out if you have a product key and, if so, how to recover your Windows 10 Product Key in this article.

It’s generally a good idea to check if you have a Windows 10 Product Key before attempting to locate one. A normal product key or a digital license can activate Windows. You won’t need to look for an actual key if your machine is activated with a digital license, and your license will be linked to your Microsoft Account.

Make sure you know what type of activation you have

  • Search for “Activation Settings” using the Windows Key.
  • At the top of the page, underneath Edition, look for your Activation type.

There’s nothing further you can do if it reads, “Window is enabled with a digital licence.” You may reinstall your operating system now, and your Windows 10 licence will be transferred to your Windows Account when you log in. If your operating system is activated using a Product Key, you can obtain it using any of the ways listed below.

Make sure the product key isn’t stuck someplace on your computer before proceeding with the procedures below. Manufacturers will often send the computer with the key attached, which is usually positioned in the back corners of the casing.

PowerShell is a wonderful way to get your Windows 10 product key

  1. Search for “Powershell” using the Windows Key.
  2. Choose “Run as Administrator” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Paste the following Powershell command at the prompt: (Get-WmiObject -query select * from SoftwareLicensingService’). OA3xOriginalProductKey”

You should see your product key shown underneath your command if your installation has one.
