What Are The Different Types Of Garage Doors?

The front entry door gets all the attention of the overhead garage door that can make or break your home’s curb appeal. If your home has a front facing, attached garage, the wide expansiveness of the garage door is the first thing people will notice. So you have to choose carefully when you consider a replacement garage door. There are many types of garage doors, visit Steel-line.com.au to get the desired garage door. You must decide on the door material, colour, finish and other options like insulation, windows and hardware which you want to use.

Types Of Garage Doors

Sectional Garage Doors – Sectional garage doors are made up of panel sections connected with hinges. When the door opens and closes the wheels at the edge of each panel roll inside a vertical track on each side of the door. The hinges between the panel section bend over a curved portion of track. This allows it to sit parallel to the ceiling when open completely or in line with the walls when closed completely.Above the opening are attached a pair of high tension springs to the cables that operate the door and hold it from drifting down when partially opened. These doors are made from Steel, low maintenance, can be customised to include window inserts, textures, hardware and colours. They come in both non insulated and insulated models.

Roll Up Garage Doors – These are used more in commercial applications than residential, but roll up doors are no frills design options built for areas with limited ceiling space. The style is made with 2″-3″  Steel sections that roll around a drum above the opening of the door. These doors are built to withstand heavy usage and high performance units can be built without springs  or enclosed to prevent rust, freezing and corrosion. The up-front costs are higher than a sectional design of roll up model due to heavy duty nature.

Slide To The Side Garage Doors – They operate just like the name implies-bending to one side of the garage and sitting parallel to the wall. They were among the first operating styles and originally used for garages with little headroom. Run along lower trolleys with slight slopes in the floor or ceiling. Slide to side doors do not require balancing springs and have a built-in retractable motor for automated operation without the need for a ceiling mounted operator.

Side Hinged Garage Doors – This old fashion design swings open and close from a hinged frame on either side of the opening. Resembling large barn doors, they are typically made of wood, more commercial type galvanized steel doors are also available. There is more demand for these classic doors now, for garages with obstructions or limited headroom. They can be purchased in pre-hung steel frames or can be fit into existing openings. Can be automated with special conversion arms.

Tilt Up/Up And Over Canopy Garage Doors – Like side hinged styles, these doors don’t have sections, they are made of one solid piece. They have pivoting hinge mechanism, so can tilt up into the garage. This is parallel to the garage ceiling and extends past the front of the house when the door is opened/
